Abstract: In his book Buzan provides a comprehensive introduction to the concepts of strategic thinking, focusing on the impact of military technology on relations between states. The author distinguishes between the routine maintenance of the armed forces and defines what constitutes an arms race. Last but not least, he introduces three not mutually exclusively models which explain how arms races are driven: the technological imperative; the domestic structure model; and the action-reaction cycle.
