Efstathios Koutsourakis

Efstathios Koutsourakis is a Researcher, Co-ordinator of the Defence and Security Programme, and Head of the Balkans and Turkey Team of The Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies at the Institute of International Relations of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He graduated with a Distinction from the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete. After receiving a postgraduate scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), he continued his studies at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Warwick. He also holds an MA in International Political Economy (Distinction), from the Department of International and European Studies of Panteion University. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of International, European and Area Studies of Panteion University, and the title of his thesis is “Correlation between Political and Strategic Culture as factors contributing/affecting the Defence Policy of States: the Cases of Greece and Turkey”.

Since 2012, Efstathios Koutsourakis has been teaching the lifelong seminars “War at the Contemporary World”, “Peripheral Wars after 1945” and “Second World War: Political and Strategic Analysis” at the Institute of International Relations. He has also published articles on defence politics and Greek-Turkish affairs.

He is a Special Forces reserve officer, and a member of the Athens Reserve Officers Association board of directors as a training officer. He has also served as President of the Athens Reserve Officers Association of the Armed Forces.
